Each chapter of FUENTES: LECTURA Y REDACCIÓN is designed to enhance the development of your reading and writing skills, your understanding of Hispanic cultures and societies, as well as your awareness of your own cultural beliefs, values, and assumptions. As you work through FUENTES: LECTURA Y REDACCIÓN, remember that learning to read and write in Spanish is a process. In fact, you are probably still learning to interpret texts and write well in your native language. But you can make this process flow more easily by reading and writing something in Spanish every day, even if it is just a note. More important, stop every now and then to check your progress. Read something in Spanish that has nothing to do with class; you may not understand everything, but you will probably understand at least part of it. Though it is often forgotten, the fact is that people do much of their reading and writing for pleasure, and we, the authors of this text, hope that the readings and writing activities in Fuentes will spark your imagination and continued interest in the Spanish-speaking world.
