Accessibility

Are eBooks and eChapters Accessible?

The reader page presents the text of the book. The top of page contains links for jumping to a specific page, adding notes, zooming text, emailing text references, printing, help and previous and next links.

The page is organized around two meaning Headings (level 1). Heading Level 1 "Tabs for contents, notes, highlights" precedes the portion of the page with a tab for table of contents links, a tab for user notes and a tab for highlights. Note: Highlights are not a currently accessible feature, We are actively working on accessible highlighting. Heading Level 1 "Book Content" immediately precedes the text of the book. The text following the "Book Content" starts with the first visible word on the page. Following the page text is a Next and Previous link for moving forward to the next page or the previous page. Upon advancing to the next page, jumping to "Book Tab Content" will place focus above the first word of the page.

If the book has been optimized with tagging, headings within the book are made subordinate to "Book Content." Therefore, headings in the book will be indicated as Heading Levels 2, 3 and so on. Our optimized books are tagged to support reading order, images, lists, headings and paragraphs. Higher education books are rich in visual layout. We tag the reading order to obtain the best possible serialization of the information on each page.

Our optimized books are tagged using both mechanized and human processes and do go through a quality assurance process. Nevertheless, from time to time there may be tagging errors.

We welcome any corrective tagging feedback.
